James Corden Hosted a Pet GalaAnd the Results Are Fabulous

The Met gala might have been postponed indefinitely this year, but that isn’t stopping the most ardent party animals from celebrating—and by party animals, we specifically mean James Corden. In a Facebook post on April 27, the late-night show host invited viewers to his first Pet Gala, a display of adorable pets in their glitziest red-carpet ensembles. Would-be participants were asked to submit photos of their pets dressed according to this year’s Met gala theme, “About Time: Fashion and Duration.” And the results were both on-theme and entirely fabulous (or, as Corden described them, “paws-atively stunning”).

In the new YouTube clip uploaded yesterday (on the first Monday in May!) Corden was joined by special guest Brad Goreski, an E! red carpet host, who weighed in on all of the chic pet submissions, from dogs to guinea pigs. Some authentically paid homage to the theme, such as one adorable pup, Lucy, who wore a headpiece featuring a giant clock on it. Others took more creative license but still made sure to play up the glamour factor. One dog named Brutus wore a blue tulle gown, for instance, which Goreski joked was “custom Bark Jacobs.” (It did look like it could be plucked from Marc Jacobs’s spring 2020 collection.) Another pup, Coco, went for drama in a gown with an extra-long train.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a proper Pup Gala without a memorable entrance. Phillip Arthur Norrington, a lizard, took the top prize when he rolled up to a faux red carpet in a “Jurassic limo.” Then, the dapper gent hit the step-and-repeat in a classic tuxedo and top hat—cementing his status as best-dressed man of the night.
